Set in one of Durham’s most scenic areas, in a contemporary new building, Sedgefield Community College has a reputation as one of the North East’s elite secondary schools. It is widely known for the quality of teaching, unrelenting high expectations, outstanding leadership, and of course consistently outstanding examination performance. With such a track record it is unsurprising that student attitudes to learning have been described by OFSTED as ‘impeccable’ and classrooms as ‘harmonious places to learn’.
Due to its reputation parents are often aware that places at Sedgefield are highly sought after both within the immediate vicinity of the school and wider afield. For this reason some parents can feel that an application for a place at Sedgefield is likely to be unsuccessful as all places will be filled by local children. However, it should be noted that each new year seven intake (of approximately 195 students) typically includes approximately 60 students (30% of the cohort) from primary schools that are situated outside the school catchment area. Indeed the school, provides a bus service that collects students from a range of locations that makes the school accessible to students that it would not be otherwise. Regardless of geographic location, parents are therefore encouraged to apply for a place at Sedgefield for their child should they feel it is the right school for them.
Parents are encouraged to contact school if they have a query about any aspect of student admissions at Sedgefield, or if they would like to visit the school. Alternatively, we hold an open evening in October each year when all parents of students attending either year 5 or 6 of Primary school are welcome to attend (children are welcome too). The specific date of this event will feature on the home page of this website during late September and into October.
It should be noted that admissions to Sedgefield Community College are managed by Durham County Council. For further information please visit the Durham County Council School Admissions section.
Please view school policies below that are referred to within our new starter admissions pack that parents / carers are required to complete prior to their child starting here.
